Bamboo in Berkshire gardens
Bamboo is often planted as a quick screen in smaller, newer gardens as well as in older, established ones. In a small garden, running bamboo can reach the house, the patio and the neighbour's fence surprisingly quickly.
We work across Berkshire, from Newbury and the Kennet valley to Reading, Wokingham, Bracknell and the Thames towns.
Ground conditions in Berkshire
Along the Thames and Kennet valleys, many gardens are on river gravels and silt, and others are on clay. Gravelly soil is quicker to dig, but the stones make screening slower, while clay is heavy when it is wet. Either way, we screen the soil for stray rhizomes before back-filling.

Got bamboo like this?
Send us a photo on WhatsApp or through the enquiry form and we will tell you what you have and the best way to deal with it. Surveys are free.
Bamboo does not stop at the fence
Running bamboo sends rhizomes under fences and gravel boards, and a dense root mat can build up along the boundary. We dig out what has come through and can fit a root barrier along the boundary to help stop it coming back.

Short 3D clips from our Instagram reels. Most of a running bamboo is out of sight, which is why we dig out the rhizomes, not just the canes.

Questions from Berkshire
Straight answers. Anything else, just ask.
Do you cover my town in Berkshire?
We work across Berkshire, including Reading, Wokingham, Bracknell, Maidenhead, Windsor, Slough, Newbury and Thatcham. Send your postcode with your enquiry and we will confirm.
I have bought a home where the previous owner planted bamboo. What should I do?
Find out whether it is a running or clumping type, and whether it was planted with a root barrier. Send us a photo for a free ID, or book a free survey and we will tell you what you have and the options.
Is the survey really free?
Yes. We visit in person, identify the species and send you a written report with photos and a fixed price quotation, with no obligation. Formal CSJK (Certified Surveyor of Japanese Knotweed) survey reports, which confirm whether invasive plants are present (for example for a property sale or mortgage), are £240 (£200 + VAT).
The bamboo is coming from next door. What can you do?
First, we'll come round for a free survey and give you a report you can share with your neighbours to get things started. Then we can quote for two options: defending your boundary with a root barrier on your side, or working across the boundary to remove the bamboo at the source, if your neighbours give permission.

Are your prices fixed?
Yes. Quotations are fixed price, plus VAT, with no hidden fees or subscriptions.
How do you keep your prices competitive?
We are a lean, owner-led team with no national overheads or call centres. Your site is surveyed in person by a qualified surveyor, we use recognised methods, and every job comes with a written guarantee and management plan. Every quote is fixed, plus VAT, after a free survey.
